Poetry

VITALS OF AN AFRICAN WOMAN

All men have clung and nursed

Of her breast and body,

All wet,

Greased with sweat

From the beastly burden of the accursed

From her thighs and bosom

Did man learn to stand erectly

For God and kin, and the sweet juice of mercy

That flows in copious volumes

Ignoring what is true we do appraise

The part of her lips

The curve of her hips

The hump of her bosom

The cleavage of her bottom

Hush! For she swells with assessors of the surface

Towards what is true we make a sudden dart

In our praise of her vitals so essential

Vitals beyond the superficial

Of brains and brave hearts

African Ancestry and Heritage

OF YOU AND ME

The manipulation of the Biblical Inscription gave birth to discrimination

And the case; the case is that the black race is the birth place of civilization

The Greeks called us Ethiopians, the Hebrew called us Cushites

And the whites sought to ignite

And see to the demise of the black minds with all their might

O yes they came

And with their marvelous oils and water colors of the painter’s brush

We witnessed the re birth of Jesus

They brought along the lies of the light

As darkness became bright

And black turned to white

Oppression was their delight

And so...so we must fight to emancipate our minds

They were kings in the days of old

Ramses was a powerful Pharaoh many years ago

But stood not alone

Yet he was one of us

Adam and Eve, David and James

These are names that had the black blood flowing through their veins

Just like you and I

Martin and Malcolm never saw eye to eye

They moved at different paces

But both were murdered for the liberation of the black races

Justice became an unrealistic reality

And the rickety Roman rules rigged our sanity

With their false Biblical absurdities

So when they ask, tell them we came from no hole

They need to be told that though we were sold

And our bones became cold with the loads of logs and lies

Our identity lies within the history of humanity

History that dates back in memory

Memory of Adam and Eve

Martin and Malcolm

Of you and me.

"KOKO"

“KOKO”

Glazed sky of red stripes, glistening grass

A chicken tendering its young, a cock crows

A tripod stove made from earth in a shack

Underneath a child blows

On it a meal simmers

Bubbling blend of corn flour and water

Blub! Blub! It forms on its surface hot bubbles

Which erupt and exhume the vapour

Of a cornmeal and the savor it couples

Forming fierce waves toppling one another;

Like so as one beholds

The heightening heat builds a furor

Inside the trembling pot

As vicious magma the meal lifts the lid and spills over

And forms around the pot’s ear

A delicious delicacy

Savored most at cockcrow;

“koko”.
